FAQs

About the coffee

Is your Blue Mountain coffee genuine?

Yes. We're an authorized online reseller for Stoneleigh, Island Blue, Jablum, Wallenford, Marley, Coffee Traders and Coffee Roasters of Jamaica, and we hold a Certified Distributor certificate. Every 100% bag we sell is labelled 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee.

How can I tell real Blue Mountain coffee from a fake?

Look for "100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee" on the bag, not "Blue Mountain style" or "Blue Mountain blend". Real Blue Mountain coffee is grown on the steep slopes of Jamaica's Blue Mountains, 2,500 to 3,000+ feet up, and it costs more because there isn't much of it. A blend can legally contain a small share of Blue Mountain coffee, so check the percentage.

What's the difference between 100% and a blend?

A 100% bag is all Blue Mountain coffee. A blend mixes some Blue Mountain coffee with other beans; for example, Jablum Premium Blend is 30% Blue Mountain coffee and 70% other Jamaican coffee. Blends are a gentler way in at a lower price.

What is Jamaica High Mountain coffee?

It's Jamaican coffee grown outside the Blue Mountain region, at lower elevations. It's a good, smooth Jamaican cup, but it is not Blue Mountain coffee, and we never sell it as such.

Why does Jablum Gold Standard cost more?

It's 100% Blue Mountain coffee from a higher grade of bean.

What does it taste like?

Smooth, clean and well balanced, with mild acidity and almost no bitterness. That's why so many people drink it black.

Buying and brewing

Whole bean or ground?

Whole bean stays fresh longer; grind it just before brewing. Ground is ready to go and works well if you'll finish the bag within a few weeks.

How should I brew it?

Any way you like: drip, pour-over, French press, AeroPress or espresso. A good start is 2 tablespoons of coffee to 6 oz of water just off the boil. Go easy on the sugar and milk the first time so you taste the coffee itself.

How do I store it?

Keep it in the bag, sealed, somewhere cool and dark. Don't keep it in the fridge. Whole beans are at their best within about a month of opening.

Can I try it first?

Yes. Our free sample is free coffee; you only pay $6.95 shipping.

Yes, we ship worldwide. Outside the US, customs duties and import taxes are the buyer's responsibility.
