"Which brand is the best?" It's a question we're asked almost every week, and our honest answer is that it depends on you: how you brew, how you like your cup, and whether the coffee is for you or a gift.
We carry eight Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee brands, and we're the authorized online reseller for most of them, so we have no reason to push one over another. What follows is what we've learned from tasting them, from our customers (some of whom, like James B., have loved this coffee "for over 30 years"), and from Barrington's sixteen or so years in coffee.
The short answer: The most respected Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee brands include Wallenford, Jablum, Coffee Roasters of Jamaica, Island Blue, Stoneleigh, Moy Hall, Marley Coffee (Talkin' Blues) and Coffee Traders. For a premium, classic cup start with Wallenford or Jablum Gold Standard; for a smooth everyday cup try Island Blue or Coffee Roasters of Jamaica; for gifting, look at Stoneleigh or a Wallenford two-pack.
Our quick picks
| If you want... | Try |

| A premium, special-occasion cup | Wallenford |
| A rare, distinctive bean | Wallenford Peaberry or Moy Hall Peaberry |
| A higher grade from a classic name | Jablum Gold Standard |

| A beautiful gift | Stoneleigh burlap packs or a Wallenford two-pack |
| Convenience | Wallenford, Jablum or Moy Hall K-Cups |
One rule applies to every brand below: check that the bag says 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. Several of these brands also make blends or other Jamaican coffees, and those are different products. (More on that in How to Tell if Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Is Real.)
Wallenford: the premium classic
Wallenford is one of the oldest estates in the Blue Mountains, grown at a higher elevation, and for many people it's the name that defines Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. Its coffee is still closely linked with the traditional Jamaican wooden barrel.
In the cup: refined and well balanced, with mild acidity and a clean finish. Best for: special mornings, important gifts, and anyone who wants the classic experience. One of our longtime customers put it simply: "I have only one luxury and it is Wallenford coffee."
Try: Wallenford Whole Bean 16 oz, or Wallenford Peaberry for something rarer. Peaberries are single, round beans found in only a small share of the harvest, with a soft cocoa, citrus and nutty character.

Jablum: the Jamaican household name
Jablum is roasted and packed at the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory in the Blue Mountains, and it's a name many Jamaicans grew up with.
- Jablum Gold Standard is 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee from a higher grade of bean, which is why it costs a little more. Smooth and rich, with a naturally sweet finish. See Jablum Gold Standard.
- Jablum Jamaican Classic is 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, medium roast, smooth and aromatic. See Jablum Classic.
- Jablum Premium Blend is a blend: 30% Blue Mountain coffee and 70% Jamaica High Mountain coffee. A good, gentler-priced Jamaican cup, but not 100% Blue Mountain coffee.
Best for: anyone who wants a familiar, dependable Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. Gold Standard is our pick if you want to treat yourself.
Coffee Roasters of Jamaica: the easy place to start
Coffee Roasters of Jamaica's Blue Mountain coffee is 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, Arabica beans grown, harvested and roasted in Jamaica. They're also the company that certified us as a distributor of their Jamaica Blue Mountain® coffee for the USA, Canada and Europe.
In the cup: smooth and balanced, with mild acidity, hints of cocoa and florals, and a silky finish. Best for: a first bag of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, and for trying before you buy. Try: Coffee Roasters of Jamaica Whole Bean 16 oz. Note that the company also makes a Blue Mountain coffee blend, so check for "100%".
Island Blue: the smooth crowd-pleaser
Island Blue is one of the most approachable Jamaica Blue Mountain coffees we carry: clean, mildly sweet and creamy, with soft chocolate and nut notes and no bitterness. It ships from our US stock when we have it, and from Jamaica otherwise.
Best for: everyday drinking, sharing, and people who like a smooth, gentle cup. Try: Island Blue Whole Bean 2-pack, or Island Blue Dark Roast if you like a bolder cup that stays low in acidity. You can read about our visit in Inside Island Blue.
Stoneleigh: the gift-giver's choice
Stoneleigh is produced by one of only seven licensed Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee dealers. Its multi-packs come wrapped in traditional Jamaican crocus (burlap) bags, which makes them one of the nicest coffee gifts we know.
In the cup: medium roast, smooth, mild and aromatic. Stoneleigh Espresso is a dark roast for espresso lovers. Best for: gifts, and anyone who wants a dark roast that is still 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. Try: Stoneleigh Whole Bean 16 oz.
Moy Hall: single-estate character
Moy Hall coffee comes from a single estate, which gives it a consistent, recognisable character from bag to bag: smooth and well rounded, with subtle floral and chocolate notes and a clean finish. Moy Hall also offers a peaberry.
Best for: people who enjoy single-estate coffees and want to compare them. Try: Moy Hall Special Reserve Whole Bean 16 oz.
Marley Coffee Talkin' Blues: bright and lively
Talkin' Blues is Marley Coffee's 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. It's the brightest of the group, with floral and fruity notes and a clean, lingering finish. Marley Coffee also sells Jamaica High Mountain coffees, so look for the Talkin' Blues name.
Best for: pour-over fans and anyone who likes a livelier cup. Try: Marley Coffee Talkin' Blues Whole Bean 8 oz.
Coffee Traders: balanced and nutty
Coffee Traders' 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is smooth and well balanced, with bright acidity, floral and nutty notes and a clean, refined finish. Some Coffee Traders bags come with a certificate of origin.
Best for: espresso, French press or drip, and buyers who like paperwork with their coffee. Try: Coffee Traders Whole Bean 2-pack.
How to choose: three simple questions
1. How do you brew? For pour-over, the brighter coffees shine: Marley Talkin' Blues, Coffee Traders, Wallenford. For French press, choose something with body: Island Blue, Jablum, Moy Hall. For espresso, try Stoneleigh Espresso or Island Blue Dark Roast. For an AeroPress, any of them works beautifully: about 15 g ground medium-fine, 7 oz of water just off the boil, a gentle stir, 1½ to 2 minutes, then press slowly. For a Keurig, Wallenford, Jablum and Moy Hall all make 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee K-Cups.
2. Whole bean or ground? Whole bean stays fresher and lets you grind just before brewing. Ground is easier. One of our customers, a real coffee enthusiast, told us ground coffee makes little sense for Blue Mountain coffee lovers, and we agree that whole bean gives you the best of it. Our whole bean vs ground guide explains the difference.
3. Is it a gift? Stoneleigh's burlap packs and a Wallenford two-pack look beautiful on arrival. If the person is new to Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, Island Blue or Jablum Classic are safe, well-loved choices.
If you're deciding between the three best-known names, we compared them side by side in Wallenford vs Jablum vs Island Blue.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee brand? There isn't one right answer. Wallenford and Jablum Gold Standard are the classic premium choices; Island Blue and Coffee Roasters of Jamaica are the easiest to love. The best one is the one that suits how you drink coffee.
Are all these brands 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee? Each brand above makes 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, but some also make blends or High Mountain coffee. Always check for "100%" on the bag.
Which Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is the smoothest? Island Blue and Jablum Classic are known for being especially smooth and mild.
What is peaberry Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee? A peaberry is a single, round bean that forms instead of the usual pair. It's found in only a small share of the harvest and many people find it sweeter and more concentrated. Wallenford and Moy Hall both offer one.
